Georgia Visa-Free Entry Requirements, Explained Plainly

Georgia gives ~95 nationalities up to 365 days visa-free — one of the most generous policies in the world. But since January 2026, travel-health insurance is mandatory to enter. Here is what you actually need, sourced from the rules.

How long can I stay in Georgia visa-free?

About 95 nationalities — USA, UK, EU, Canada, Australia and many others — can stay up to 365 days per entry without a visa.

Georgia's visa-free policy covers roughly 95 nationalities for a full year per entry. Border officers have discretion on repeat or back-to-back entries, so do not rely on consecutive visa-run resets as a guaranteed strategy.

Is travel health insurance now required to enter?

Yes — from January 1, 2026, travel-health insurance is mandatory to enter Georgia. No insurance means refused entry at the border.

The requirement was introduced under Regulation No. 602. Every visitor must hold a qualifying policy for the full duration of their stay. Being found inside Georgia without valid insurance can also result in a fine. The policy must be in Georgian or English.

What insurance qualifies under the new rule?

A travel-health insurance policy with minimum 30,000 GEL (~$11,000) coverage, in Georgian or English, valid for your entire stay.

Does a long stay trigger Georgian tax residency?

Staying 183 or more days in a calendar year can make you a Georgian tax resident — the 1% small-business regime is not automatic.

Georgia has a favourable 1% Individual Entrepreneur (IE) tax regime, but it requires registration and formal approval — it does not apply automatically to visa-free visitors. If you plan to stay 183 or more days, get proper tax advice before assuming any particular rate applies to your income.

Can I work remotely from Georgia on a visa-free stay?

Remote work for a foreign employer is a legal gray area — and a March 2026 rule may require a labour permit for self-employed individuals and freelancers.

Pure remote work for an employer based outside Georgia has historically existed in a legal gray zone. A March 2026 regulatory change may now require a labour permit for self-employed workers and freelancers physically present in Georgia. Confirm the current rules with an adviser or official source before relying on visa-free status as work authorisation.
