Digital Nomad Visa
International Teleworking Visa — Ley 28/2022, Startup Act
- 1-year consulate visa — lets you apply (within 60 days before expiry) for a residence authorisation of up to 3 years in Spain if you still meet the conditions; renewable in 2-year periods thereafter
- For non-EU remote workers and freelancers earning income from companies or clients outside Spain
- Income threshold: €2,849/month (200% of Spain’s 2026 SMI — verified vs BOE, adjusts annually)
- Beckham Law option: 24% flat tax for 6 years (employed applicants, conditions apply — verify with a Spanish tax adviser)
- Requires full private health insurance from an insurer authorised to operate in Spain (or public cover) — travel-style nomad policies often do not meet this; confirm with your insurer/consulate
NLV
Non-Lucrative Visa
Visado de residencia no lucrativa — for retirees & passive-income residents
- For non-EU citizens with sufficient passive income or savings who will live in Spain without working
- Popular with retirees and financially independent individuals
- No work permitted on this permit (non-lucrative)
- 183+ days per year triggers Spanish tax residency on worldwide income — verify with a tax adviser
