Thailand DTV (Destination Thailand Visa)
The Destination Thailand Visa (DTV) is a 5-year visa for remote workers, freelancers and soft-power activities, allowing up to 180 days per entry. It carries a much lower financial bar than the LTR and does not require health insurance.
Independent guide, not legal advice.
Who it's for
Remote workers and freelancers working for non-Thai clients, and people pursuing a soft-power activity such as Muay Thai, cooking or cultural courses, who hold at least ฿500,000 in liquid savings and are aged 20 or over.
Requirements
- Applicant must be 20 or older.
- A qualifying purpose: remote work/freelance for non-Thai clients, or a soft-power activity (Muay Thai, cooking, courses).
- At least ฿500,000 (~$14k) in liquid funds.
- A clean immigration record (a prior overstay or refusal can affect approval).
- Funds should be seasoned: keep ฿500k in the account ~3 months before applying (some embassies want 3–6 months of statements).
Document checklist
- Passport (valid 6+ months) + photo
- Bank statement showing ฿500k held ~3 months
- Proof of purpose (remote-work / employment letter, or soft-power enrollment)
- Proof of accommodation
- DTV application form
- Visa fee ฿10,000 (some embassies ฿10,000–14,000)
How & where to apply
Consulates most consistently recommended by 2025–26 DTV applicants: Vientiane, Phnom Penh, Ho Chi Minh City, Kuala Lumpur; your home-country embassy is often smoothest. Apply through the Thai mission serving where you are physically located; seasoning enforcement varies by post. (community-reported · confirm with consulate)
Common blockers
- Funds not yet seasoned — keep ฿500k held for ~3 months before applying.
- Savings below ฿500k.
- Purpose does not qualify (needs remote work for non-Thai clients or a soft-power activity).
- A prior overstay or refusal — get a specialist review first.
